50 years of Radio and TV Sportscasting
Now when I started broadcasting in West Virginia in 1962, I had no idea where it would lead. Frankly I didn’t think about it much.  It was fun and I had nothing else to do.  Then, in 1964, I was offered a job in Orlando, Florida and that put my broadcasting career into high gear.

Although in 1964 there wasn’t much in the way of sports to broadcast in Orlando, things were about to change.  By 1967 my friend Bill Stamper and I were doing the first “sports talk show” in the history of Central Florida.    It was one of several firsts in sports broadcasting for me.

I started doing play-by-play for football, the PGA Tour and NASCAR along the way.  I even managed to broadcast the first ever high school football game live on local TV.

During my first retirement, I was asked to serve for just one year as the Media Director for the Arnold Palmer Invitational PGA Tour Event…I continued in that role for 20 years.
(It was hard to say not to Arnold Palmer!!)    Just blessed, I’m tellin’ you…

Now I’ve come out retirement and am back live and on the air again – lovin’ it just as much as ever!

History in the making
In all my years of broadcasting, I’ve done a variety of things in radio and television….but my all time favorite is doing sports talk radio, and I’m lovin’ doing 3 shows a week on the stations of WSBB Radio originating from their home studios in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, “Did I mention that I’ve been on scholarship my whole life?”

If you’ve been around me any length of time, you’ve heard me say “I’ve been on scholarship my whole life”.

Since I love what I do, and always have, it really doesn’t seem like a job… talking sports all the time.  I was blessed to just stumble into something and make it last for over fifty years!
